For a Jew having the freedom to practice Judaism as passed through the generations is everything. The Greeks banned Jewish practice from the bris millah, circumcision, to shabbat, to mikvah, the laws of ritual purity. But the Syrian-Greeks didn’t just ban Jewish practice and teaching children they also raped the Jewish daughters and stole money from the Jewish people. They even forced all Jewish girls through a government ordered to first have relations with a government official before getting married.
